in case you don’t read comments, it turns out we’ve gotten allocated tickets through the conditional ticket thing for the opening match. so, hopefully, we’ll make it in time. it’s going to be tight. luckily, they’ll have some most likely lame opening ceremony that will hopefully give us enough time to get to our seats by match time. i expect security to be a nightmare. i had to go this morning to change my ticket reservation to earlier. i have to make the train at 7:07. man is it going to suck getting up that early. could be worse. the plan is to meet g’owen at the hotel and then hall ass back to the airport to catch a flight to munich. apparently, you can’t get train reservations less than 7 days before leaving. we could have gambled and hoped there’s enough space on the train. too many variables.
for future reference, if you’re ever taking a train in europe (not with a eurail pass), if you buy your ticket 3 days in advance you get like 25% off and 7 days you get ~50% off. this is according to the woman at the ticket desk at amsterdam centraal. it’s 14 days if you’re going to france. according to her, you can get a round trip to paris for ~69 euros. it would normally be 100 one way. if you don’t get your ticket in advance, it doesn’t matter if you get a return ticket or not as it’s the same price as 2 one way tickets.
btw, there’s no way i’m not coming back to amsterdam during the next football season. the only question is for how long. amsterdam is easily the best place i have ever been. i’m sure there are some negatives, a lot of tourists, but largely i have no real complaints. for me, that’s saying a lot.
for you to have no real complaints is HUGE.
No kidding. He’s one griping and complaining (but loveable) bastard.
It’s simply unfathomable that you can’t find something about Amsterdam to complain about. You’re just messing with us, surely. Must be a temporary debauchery high. I’m sure you’ll come up with something once you reflect. What about the plussized prostitutes? That’s got to be some sort of penal foul.
For those of use not in Germany, try The Original Steakhouse Sports Theater, Homewood, AL. I watched Germany’s win over Costa Rica during lunch. And for those that care, smoking not allowed (Homewood passed an ordinance).
where are the updates on your time in Germany?!
i had inadvertently marked the last post as private. i still have some stuff to post from the second day, as well as stuff from the dreadful u.s. match. hopefully, i’ll get it done this morning.
