random ramblings

i went down to the apple store to check out the new macbook. it’s much smaller than i expected, but in a good way. it also has a different looking keyboard from pretty much every other laptop. maybe the keys won’t fall out as easily. a big downside is the glossy screen. supposedly, these glossy screens are common in the windows notebook world. i can’t understand why they are even made unless it’s drastically cheaper. the glare seemed pretty bad. i don’t think i would consider it a show stopper.

while i was out, i figured i would go over to harrod’s to check out this l.g. 71″ gold plated plasma television. the picture quality was pretty good. i’m not sure where they were getting the hd signal, but it was clearly some sort of demo reel since it had an l.g. logo on the image. i suppose if you have more money than you know what to do with it might be worth p70,000.

one odd thing about harrod’s is that they have a musical instrument department. a lot of pianos. not surprising. however, the guitars they had were nothing special. in the p250 range. it’s surprising since most of the stuff in there seems to be targeted at rich people.

harrod’s also has a krispy kreme in it with the whole conveyor belt cooker. unfortunately, it wasn’t in action so i had to settle for some not warm, but still fresh doughnuts.

i went and watched the champions league final at the pub down the street. i never got a ticket for the one 4 buildings down so i had to settle for a crappy small screen. pretty much every pub in islington that had televisions was slammed. while it may be better if you’re really behind one of the teams playing, i don’t think i’m a fan of watching games in public. too many variables that you don’t have any control over. picture quality, annoying people (the main one apparently wasn’t even an arsenal fan), crowds, can’t get a beer because the bar is slammed. shouldn’t have gotten a ticket. i definitely understand why they did it. i have to assume that england apparently doesn’t have any sort of maximum occupancy restrictions.

anyway, i’m not going to comment on the actual match since you may not have seen it yet.

Oh! What a match. It was nerve racking for 76 minutes. Although it is possible that Etoo was offside, Eboue’s dive in the first half should have been a yellow card (for diving and obviously no Henry free-kick). So I see both sides equally lucky, with a slight towards Barca. Then of course is Lehman: Do you card him, or do you give advantage and let Giuly’s goal in? It’s a tough choice, but equally damming to Arsenal. I never got to see if Etoo was possibly offside on that chance. Henry should have put at least a couple away. Valdez had a huge game, as well as Larsson. What a send off. All in all I think the better team won. Arsenal didn’t show as much possesion or shots on goal than Barca did.

eto’o was definitely close to being offside. i think it reasonable to give him the tie. how offside generally should be called. i don’t see why he couldn’t have played advantage, given the goal and then sent off lehman. he clearly took him out. arsenal was lucky not to be down a goal at that point.

arsenal appeared to give up when they went down 2-1 with 10 minutes + stoppage to go. the better team won. you wouldn’t see liverpool sitting back watching barca pass around. of course, i guess that’s why they’ve won the champions league.

eboue shoudl have been carded for a dive.

i think henry should go to liverpool if he leaves arsenal.
