brentford v bradford city 2006-04-08 ticket

alright, so it is only league 1, but you have to try them all. this means i only need to catch a league 2 match. i suppose i might could see some conference games too.

it was generally a decent match. it was a 6533 attendance. not bad. mostly locals i would assume. they actually have standing areas behind the goals instead of seats. i suppose that will be a problem if they ever make it to the premiership. i would think that the side seating was about the same as craven cottage. the difference with craven cottage is the significant number of seats behind the goals.

the biggest thing lacking was good passing. it seemed like a lot of long ball. i would definitely say it is below m.l.s. quality. m.l.s. is probably somewhere between top of the championship and bottom of the premiership. brentford had a lot of opportunities to win in the second have, but some of their players need to open their eyes. too much dribbling with their head down. unfortunately, it ended in a draw. it would still appear that brentford will be promoted to the championship next season. they’re currently ranked 2nd in league 1.

one interesting note, phil dowd got relegated to ref’ing this match instead of the manchester v arsenal match sunday. he sucked at this match too.

enough of that, here’s the pictures.

the griffin pub seemed to be a good number of fans at this pub before the match.

i’m not going to a match tomorrow since chelsea v west ham is at noon-ish and manchester united v arsenal will be at 16:00. i guess i will be spending the entire day at the pub.

i picked up one of these eyetv digital usb boxes at the apple store on my way back. the included antenna didn’t work, but using one i borrowed from a flatmate i can pick up bbc1-3 and bbc news 24. all digital channels at widescreen pal dvd resolution (720×576 16:9 -> 1024×576), but a little weak on the bitrate. it’s only between 4mbps and 6.5mbps which is slightly below the max for a dvd. a much better choice than the abortion for digital television that the u.s. has inflicted on its citizens. while hi-def is supposedly on the horizon for the uk (i think it might use mpeg-4), i don’t real see it as a requirement. just switching to mpeg-4 and not changing the resolution or bitrate would be the best choice. there’s really no need for high-def for the vast majority of people in the u.s. or u.k. if only they would get rid of the interlacing and bump the bandwidth. maybe go to a pure 1024 instead of anamorphic.
oh well, “match of the day” is starting. maybe by next week i’ll be able to record it.

p.s. – all the goals in the portsmouth v blackburn game were great. some blizzard in sunderland. too bad for mcbride.

  1. Peter says:

would be nice if there were little stadiums like Brentford’s all over the country here.

  2. Joel says:

Who’s there sponsor? I saw something in Arabic. And something that said Qatar.

  3. brodie bruce says:

    it says “fly qatar airways”.

more importantly than all over the country would be 10 or so in one state. with teams, of course.

i also forgot to put in the post than brentford f.c. was founded in 1889.

  4. Eric says:

I was thinking the same thing as Peter. Looks to be a great place to watch a match.
