to be deaf must be glorious…

my ears are still clogged. it seems to have moved from inside my head to closer to my eardrum. consequently, i can’t really hear that well. it’s so nice to dull the cacophony of useless crap coming out of peoples mouthes.

anyways, not much for today. my sleeping is still way off. i’m not even on an american sleeping pattern. i think i went to bed around 21:00 last night, woke in the middle of the night sometime and then didn’t get up until 13:00 today.

i decided not to try and make it to the tottenham vs blackburn game today. i instead went to look an apartment in chelsea (technically fulham, but it was blocks from stamford bridge). why would i want to live there anyway? alas, it was a dump. spider webs in a door way into the kitchen, multiple water stains dirty carpet and not exactly cheap. i should have been less responsible and tried to go to the game. i also checked out the clapham commons area. there’s supposed to be a place there that’s rooms in a victorian mansion. decent price, but i wasn’t impressed with the area.

tomorrow i suppose i’ll go look at this place near bayswater and royal oak stations. it’s some guy who owns an oriental carpet store. foreign. this should be interesting.

i’ve really got to sort out this tube situation as paying 3 pounds per trip isn’t going to cut it. they have day passes and an oyster card i just have to actually figure it out. i still need a personal assistant.

it’s sort of shocking/annoying how many american brands there are here. i would expect it accounts for most of the chain restaurants. mcdonald’s and starbucks are everywhere. kfc seems to be pretty prevalent too. odd. i’ve seen a couple of local places that claim to be bar-b-que joints. i haven’t been able to bring myself to try them as i expect they’ll suck. also, i’m not sure if it’s just me, but everywhere i go the french fries/chips suck. they seem dry and like they were made by pressing together a bunch of that powder stuff you make instant mashed potatoes with or something. not good. i have to wonder if the people that go to starbucks are americans? the mcdonald’s and kfc at victoria station is slammed the times i’ve been in there. non-americans, probably brits.

i’ve really got to find a place to live so i can get on with my life. surely there’s someone you can pay to do this. if i don’t see a football match soon i’m going to go crazy. i wonder how difficult it would be to get to the wigan vs manchester united game tomorrow…

Manchester-Wigan will be a tough ticket probably considering that Wigan is more or less in the same area. It’d be like trying to get a ticket to see Alabama play UAB (difficult, because everybody’s from the same area.) Of course, the entire UK is smaller than Oregon, so I guess that’s the case everywhere. Our gigantic country taints my perspective at times.

I am available for personal assistance as soon as I get my passport.

I have similar problems flying. I almost always have a splitting headache after landing. Ears don’t usually fully come back to normal for a few days. Let’s be honest though….flying in a pressurized metal tube is not normal.

I searched ‘Longon Short-term Lodging’ and found some interesting looking links. Don’t know if that will help, but you’d better stay on-task on that one. Hotels are gonna get expensive, especially if you splerg for a bathroom or other such extravagance.

How’s the beer? I fell in love with the less carbonated types while there.

    Asked for ice yet?

  5. Sandy says:

splerg is splurge over there :) .

Based on the Spurs – Blackburn highlights you should have gone. Robbie Keane’s first goal was brilliant.

So how much is the closet you are staying in?

    some answers.

re: beer, i’ve only had a carlsberg so far. not the first time.

    re: game, what a mistake

re: closet, 35 a night. the entire street is pretty much similar looking hotels. there are even cheaper places it appears.

The Bayswater area is where Mariela & I stayed for four days. It’s quite nice and I don’t think it has that Chelsea feel. The picture of the front of your hotel looks surprisingly like the hotel we stayed in. I’m guessing that architecture is somewhat repetitive. Yeah, american restaurants are all over the place, and they where always slammed.
